The sound of the bells and the Dragon parades
According to the Chinese lunar calendar, 2025 is the Year of the Snake.
In Prato, the celebrations for the Chinese New Year begin on the 28th of January at 5 p.m., or midnight in Beijing, and continue throughout the month of February.
On Saturday, the 8th of February, the celebration will pass through the streets of Macrolotto 1 and 2, the heart of the Chinese community and of industrial and productive Prato. On Sunday, the 9th of February, it will be the turn of the historic center, the heart of the ancient city and guardian of the city's history, in a unique mix of ancient and contemporary that only Prato can offer. The parade will start from the Buddhist Temple and will first cross the Macrolotto Zero area and then the historic center, entering the shops in compliance with the Chinese ritual according to which the passage of the Dragon chases away bad luck from the commercial establishments for the new year in which we are about to enter.
The highlight of the parade on Sunday will be in Piazza Santa Maria delle Carceri, where the spectacular Lion dance will take place: this unique event is the moment in which you can best get to know the largest Chinese community in Italy. A precious moment of encounter between Eastern and Western culture.
