Prometheus Strangling the Vulture II Come and discover the fascinating Prometheus Strangling the Vulture II statue in Prato. A bronze masterpiece that captures Greek mythology and the essence of Prometheus' heroism
The statue that enchants the soul: Prometheus Strangling the Vulture II, a bronze masterpiece sculpted by the Lithuanian genius Jacques Lipchitz and donated to the wonderful city of Prato in 2013.
In this extraordinary work, Greek mythology comes to life. Prometheus, bold and courageous, stole fire from the gods to return it to humans, thus unleashing the wrath of Zeus. The ruler of the gods condemned him to be tied for eternity to an inhospitable mountain, where a merciless eagle tormented him incessantly.
But in this superb sculptural representation, Lipchitz shows us another truth: Prometheus triumphs over his cruel fate. With enthusiasm and determination, he finally frees himself from the chains that oppressed him and, with one powerful hand, strangles the bird of prey, while with the other he firmly grasps its sharp claws.
This statue exudes overwhelming strength and passion, enchanting the gaze of anyone who admires it. It invites us to reflect on the challenges we face in life and our ability to overcome them with courage and tenacity. A symbol of rebellion, hope and triumph over oppression.
Come and discover this beauty in the heart of Prato, right in front of Palazzo Pretorio in dialogue with the famous Bacchino fountain, and take the opportunity to visit the Palazzo Pretorio Museum which houses, on the third floor, Jacques Lipchitz's donation to the city.
