Count Up Alessandra Andrini's work in Piazza dell'Università
Count Up is a time clock located in Piazza dell'Università in Prato, realized by the artist Alessandra Andrini in 2009. This work won the competition called in 2008 by the Pecci Centre as a symbol of resistance and civic commitment in the city.
Andrini has created a unique clock of its kind: it does not tell the time, but counts the time starting from the entry into force of the Italian Constitution on 27th December 1947, at 5 p.m. This particular clock represents a tribute to history and culture of Prato, underlining the importance of the fundamental values enshrined in the Constitution.
Unfortunately, due to technological obsolescence, the mechanism with which the clock was designed has undergone premature aging. However, thanks to a long restoration, the work was brought back into full operation. Today, Count Up continues to bear witness to the passage of time and celebrate the history of Prato, reminding visitors of the values and ideals on which Italian society is founded.
This timepiece clock represents an invitation to reflect on the process undertaken by the city and to renew the commitment to the principles of democracy, equality and solidarity enshrined in our Constitution.
