Culture, Spine of life The Golba Column, the imposing sculpture that celebrates the vital link between culture and society

Culture, for Iranian artist Hossein Golba, is a stately cornerstone of life. He has shaped an imposing sculpture four metres high, a tower of overlapping books in a visual harmony that enhances its grandeur. The title chosen for this impressive work is 'Culture', symbolizing the immensity of the literary heritage it represents. This modern spine is kept in an imposing glass case, embraced by a steel structure that jealously protects the literary treasure inside.

The columns of books, in a vertical position, speak in a mystical silence, evoking stories, suggestions and interior worlds. Despite their silence, you can feel the rustle of the pages and the liveliness of the ideas trapped among those volumes. This display of culture and knowledge invites you to observe, reflect and feel the overwhelming desire to explore those inaccessible literary treasures.

The work astonishes with its ability to make tangible the profound meaning that the artist wanted to communicate: the essential link between culture and the survival of society. This sculpture becomes a warning, suggesting that without culture, a society is destined to decline.

Strategically placed in the area of the former Campolmi factory, outside the library and the Textile Museum, the position of this unique work is a powerful reminder of the message it transmits. Art embraces the essence of an institution dedicated to knowledge and history.

This new location of Golba's work, although static, offers hope: inside the Lazzerini Library, doors open to fascinating worlds and unexplored universes, brought to light only through the magic of reading.
