Officina Giovani A place where history meets the creativity of the future
Officina Giovani is a space completely dedicated to young people and their ideas, located in an area of approximately 8000 square metres which once housed the former Public Slaughterhouses. These five buildings, erected between 1930 and 1970, have undergone an extraordinary transformation.
Since 1999, these buildings have been excluded from the possibilities of real estate development for a very specific reason: to transform them into a space dedicated to youth policies, keep them as public property and promote active community involvement. This is how Officina Giovani came to life: a place intended for live shows and events for the young people of Prato, located in an area close to the historic centre, close to what will be the Central Urban Park.
Officina Giovani is a place of active design, collaborating with a wide range of subjects. Passing through the entrance arch, you will find yourself in front of Punto Giovani Europa, Cantieri Culturali and Officina Teen; an events room for 500 people, a dance room, a theatre room, an open space, rehearsal rooms, co-working spaces, a bar-bistro, a web radio and headquarters for youth associations.
Cantieri Culturali, an institution aimed at the artistic needs of young people, offers them a space to create, work and show their works to the public. Officina Teen is a space dedicated to young people from Prato between the ages of 13 and 18, where they can meet, participate in creative workshops, film clubs, activities and parties, express their creativity and organize events for their peers.
Furthermore, over the years, both the internal and external walls of the buildings have been enriched with murals of various sizes and by different artists. Officina Giovani is the ideal place to explore, create and share, representing an authentic centre of youth vitality.
