Montemurlo
Montemurlo is a modern town that has experienced incredible industrial and demographic development over the last thirty years, bringing tangible benefits to the economy, territory and culture. Despite this rapid evolution, Montemurlo has been able to preserve precious historical-artistic testimonies intact on the surrounding Monteferrato hills. The ancient part of the center stands majestically on a hill, offering a spectacular panorama of the valley below.
On the highest point of the hill, surrounded by the greenery of its centuries-old park, stands the Fortress dating back to the 14th century, a true emblem of Montemurlo. In the village square stands the characteristic Parish Church of San Giovanni beheaded, a Romanesque jewel with an amalgam of works of art belonging to different eras.
Montemurlo has always attracted visitors for its magnificent hills, as evidenced by the villas scattered throughout the area, which belonged to the most prestigious Florentine families. Among these, Villa Pazzi al Parugiano, Villa Strozzi and Villa del Barone stand out (some of which can be visited on request).
With a surface area of 30.66 km² and a population of over 19,000 inhabitants (2023 data), the municipality includes the localities of Bagnolo and Oste.
Like Prato, Montemurlo is an integral part of the local textile district. Here, many leading companies in the sector are based; symbolic places where the supply chain of the wonderful world of fashion comes to life. The fabrics produced here shine on the most prestigious catwalks in the world, promoting a green and sustainable approach. Recycling and reuse represent the soul of Prato textile production process, with the highly prized fabrics that come out of the large factories in the industrial area of Oste.
